A quick way to get started with writing for the publication.

Welcome! If you’re here, you want to be a writer for This Code. Below, I have created a small list of guidelines to help you prepare for your first article in here.

Here are the list of things that we publish. If your article stands in any of these categories, we’ll consider it for publishing for sure.

  1. Programming tutorials— any field is acceptable, be it Mobile, Web Development, Machine Learning or DevOps. You can also write about any Programming language in general — new features, version updates and more.
  2. Programming experiences— if you have gained a valuable insight from your day to day job as a coder or you just had an aha moment in which you learnt something new, we want your story!
  3. Work place experiences — Those little nuggets of day to day experience from you can help some of your readers, so please so share it with us!

In addition to that, your article must have:

— An informative headline — one that gives the reader a glimpse of what to expect.

— A preview image from royalty free sites like Unsplash.

— Good structure and formatting for your story. Divide your story into short paragraphs and clear code definitions, if you’re including code. You can also embed GitHub gists into your story or simply add a piece of code by typing ``` and pressing Enter/return.

Don’t worry if it’s your first time on Medium, we’ll do our best to get you started too. We can add private notes so that you can know more about making your article look and feel better to the reader.

How to submit?

We try to provide a modular experience to our readers, hence our articles are divided into several categories.

Make sure one of these tags is included in your draft:

  • Python — For Python related and/or Machine Learning articles
  • Android/iOS — For all Mobile Development based articles
  • Javascript — For vanilla JS, React, Vue, Angular, and any framework tutorials
  • Go — For all Go tips, tricks, and more
  • Computer Science — For Algorithms, Data structues, and other Computer Science based tutorials and how-tos.
  • Life — For articles containing a story you’re telling about programming life/work and productivity.
  • Snippets — For useful code snippets you might come across or use regularly in programming day to day.

How to become a writer

Please comment here in this story to apply to become a writer for This Code.

When you’re added as a writer, you won’t need to do this step. You can then simply add your draft to This Code by selecting ‘Add To Publication’ from the menu.

All the best!

Something to remember:

Write to express, not to impress.
