A Short Summary of #OccupyGezi in Istanbul

For those who wonder what is going on in Istanbul, Turkey recently, a very short summary

This is my first post on Medium. I had planned it to be something about my job, my hobbies when I accepted as an author but in turn of recent events in my city, in my country this changed.

I wanted to quote words of a friend ,who summarized for his non Turkish friends.

To all my non Turkish friends:
Prime Minister’s private army is giving innocent people of İstanbul a hell of pepper gas and beating just because they protest having a shopping center built up in a park of trees and sitting banks. %90 of the media is censoring the news. Police camera systems has been powered down in the areas where police terror is at it’s peak. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the terrors we have been suffering in the past months at the hands of the Turkish SA.
Know this: No matter how hard these medieval fucks try to bury us in a sea of ignorance and fanaticism we -the real inheritors of this beautiful culture, are NOT going to give this country to a bunch of religious capitalist fanatics! We will not rest until every drop of their ugly shadows are swept away. Their misbegotten kind will be send back to the darkness where it came from!
Bear with us… Pray for us…

In Turkey, most of the media is blind due to goverment suppression. While the protests carry on for days now, mainstream media is showing it a little to none. Many of people in the country have no idea whats really going on.

Police is ruthless to their own people. They attack their own people with tear gas and iron stick (for now) like they are invading enemies.

Police generosity for tear gas

Gezi Park is now more than a park with only a few hundred trees that needs to be saved. It is the peak point of the stress and suppression that changed my country for more than a decade now. Its not a protest of radical left side groups, its not a protest of marginal people. Its the protest of the people, senior citizens, students, artist, musicians, actors, members of Turkish Parliament, foreigners living in Istanbul…

People of this country survived and reborn again after Independance War, building a Republic instead of an Empire. We will not let the Empire rise again, we don’t want Sultans, we don’t want Dictators.

 Bear with us…Pray for us…
