Applying to College
How it Really Feels
Over the past few weeks I have been applying to colleges, mostly in Texas and California. I just want to get a few things off my chest.
- Out of State Tuition is Stupid: Yes I know that people that have lived in California all their lives pay taxes to the state schools, but it leaves the students that want to attend college in California only one option, Private Schools. Private schools, on average, are more much more expensive than state schools and more rigorous.
- Admissions Needs to Stop “Losing” Fee Waivers: Come on UTSA, really? There are many schools that will “lose” students fee waivers in hopes that they will be discouraged to send it again and just pay the application fee. (Anywhere from $40 to $75!) Colleges make enough money from taxes, students that hand over tuition like it’s pocket change, and those overgenerous donors.
- Get with the times! : Many schools are so techonologically advanced that every documennt needed for admissions is uploadable in some way, shape, or form. Snail mail is unreliable, slow, and did I mention unreliable?
