I’ve been in the San Francisco Bay area eight months now, and with much of my focus dedicated to work, finding a footing in an increasingly competitive rental market, exploring the neighbourhoods with my wife, spending great time with friends and running close to every square mile of the city — I can say with honesty that tonight was actually the first time I felt a sense of community.

It came in the form of a Task Rabbit gig that earned a few extra dollars for two hours of basic work, but gave me a huge uplift in the community awesomeness department.

The poster came and picked me up at home. We tackled the task together. It took a little bit longer than expected. No worries. They dropped me to transportaiton in order to get home.

Flexibility and understanding was demonstrated on both are parts. The transaction was secondary to the interaction. I contributed more than I consumed.

That’s community in mind.
