Today we launch the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Challenge Grant, a partnership between Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Zoo Biology, and Experiment.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums was founded in 1924. Their mission is to helps its members and the animals in their care thrive by providing services advancing animal welfare, public engagement, and the conservation of wildlife.

Founded in 1982, Zoo Biology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes discoveries related to reproduction, demographics, genetics, behavior, medicine, husbandry, nutrition, conservation and all empirical aspects of the exhibition and maintenance of wild animals in wildlife parks, zoos, and aquariums.

Experiment’s mission is to democratize the research process so anyone can do science.

This launch is an evolution of our first Zoo Grant Challenge in 2016 where 1,075 Experiment backers crowdfunded $45,658 to fund ten zoo research projects.

This year, the Association for Zoos and Aquariums approved 8 research projects conducted by their members. To ensure eligibility and quality, projects are reviewed for clarity, scientific accuracy, and feasibility. On February 26th, the Association for Zoos and Aquariums award an additional $1000 grant to the project with the most number of backers. Additional grants will be awarded by the Association for Zoos and Aquariums and Zoo Biology.
