In a few hours since now, we will get the new Champion of the World in badminton. The current champion, Kento Momota, who has been dominating men’s singles since the beginning of 2018, has the chance to defend his title and to prove his supremacy.

His opponent, the rising start form Denmark, Anders Antonsen, seeded #5, has all chances and ambitions to become the next champion of the world.

This year, Anders won two titles. One of these two titles, Indonesia Open 2019, he won 6 months ago in the match against his today’s opponent Kento Momota. So, Anders knows how to play against the Japanese and has a positive experience of beating Momota in final matches.

The fact that he won one of his major titles and overplayed Momota, adds some extra intrigue to the match.

I am pretty sure that these days Anders has been showing his best play ever. His aggressive attacking style, ability to keep a high pace and to control his emotions on the court (which was obviously lacking in his game), has brought him results in previous matches. In the quarterfinal match, he left Chinese two times champion of the worlds outside the battle for his third title.

Nevertheless, Kento Momota has still to be considered as a favorite in this match. Winning a few important titles this year, including Japanese Open 2019, Momota keep his #1 place in the World’s ranking and demonstrates the badminton of the highest level from the match to match.

What may play against him in this match is that he has not met real opposition at this tournament. His counterparts in Basel did find a way to question Momota’s game. Lee Zii Jia from Malaysia in the quarterfinal and Sai Praneeth from India in the seminal did not win even a game in their matches against Kento. From one hand, it makes the champion less tired, from the other hand, it makes him less mobilized and gives chances to Anders Antonsen to catch him a bit relaxed and overconfident.

Who will become the next champion of the world? That is the question! And we will get the response to it in less than 3 hours! Watch the match online here:
