Late in 2019, I announced on Talking Shop with Andy Polaine, Adrienne Tan and Dr. John Curran that one of the exciting new initiatives that This is HCD was working on for 2020, was focussing on enabling our global audience to connect to form deeper relationships with one and another and connect over the common goal of ‘doing good’ through opening local chapters in cities around the world.

So far we have announced Sydney, Melbourne, Dublin, Berlin and now we are so excited to add our very first South American chapter — Buenos Aires!

It’s so exciting to watch the This is HCD community continue to grow into new areas and territories. I really want to try and connect communities to work together to help share knowledge and make connections and hopefully building relationships. The team in Buenos Aires have achieved so much and when Pablo approached me about collaborating, he didn’t have to say very much to make this happen!

Quote

“We are thrilled to be part of the expansion of This is HCD into new territories with the opening of a chapter in Buenos Aires. We believe this could be a great opportunity to open up bridges between our local community and others around the world. We are hopeful that the creation of new chapters in global cities outside of the traditional design capitals will make for richer conversations for everyone.” — Pablo Fernández Vallejo, This is HCD — Chapter Lead

About BA Service Jams

We are a group of 7 Buenos Aires-based designers working on a variety of different companies and organizations going from strategic design firms to tech unicorns and government. We are passionate about human-centered design and we are always looking for new ways to give back to our local community and promote the design practice in the region.

We started a few years ago organizing the Buenos Aires edition of the Global Service Jam. In 2019 we went on to prototype a new Jam where we could use human-centered design to prototype services with a gender perspective: the world’s very first GenderJam. We also host #DXSconf, Argentina’s very first conference on service innovation with a focus on design.

It is an interesting time for design practitioners in Latin America, communities are gaining strength and conversations are getting more interesting by the day. We love creating spaces that make such things happen. This is what led us to create this chapter.

We are: Federico Romano, Jimena Califa, Magalí Amalla, Melanie Durán, Pablo Fernández Vallejo, Rodrigo Trejo and Tomás Ottolenghi.
