During the last six months The Health Informatics Service (THIS) has successfully tested the sharing of data between Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield General Practices and Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust(CHFT) via the Medical Interoperability Gateway (MIG). This collaboration and interoperability is essential to the improved safety of our patients, efficiencies of our clinical colleagues and the overall patientexperience.

The MIG will provide a two-way real-time view of the patient data set between Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield GPs and CHFT Cerner Millennium, this is similar to the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) viewer GPs currently have access to. The data displays within EPR itself and not aportal, making the data readily available for secondary care staff.

The potential to extend this interoperability across other care settings is already being explored and will deliver further benefits. We are currently working with Calderdale Council looking at their Social Care System(CIS). The aim is to create a reciprocal view between EPR and CIS and expand this into Primary and Community Care.

Calderdale has enabled the MIG at their GPpractices and we are currently in advanced discussions with Greater Huddersfield. The MIG has also recently been implemented for CHFT community staff using SystmOne. This gives staff a view of the EMIS GP recordensuring they have all the information they need when providing care to patients.

To give you more informaiton about what MIG is and why it will be a useful tool we spoke with William Ainslie, Shona Hanson and Dinesh Kumar about the new system. See the video below:
