About the Journalist

Ashley Kalstek is a senior at the City College of New York. While she lives in Harlem, she was born and raised on Long Island. She has recently completed her coursework in the Media and Communications Art department at City and hopes to find a job that fits her passion of mixed media and writing in the upcoming months.

Ashley has written for The Campus, Harlem Focus and was the Project Manager and PR Director for her workshop group’s recent campaign, My City Moment, for the City College Fund.

Earlier this year, Ashley, along with her Reporting and Writing classmates, won an Apple Award for their multimedia project, “The Death and Life of Harlem.” Ashley’s focus was on the K2 and drug concern amongst the East Harlem population juxtaposed with the spread in gentrification in that neighborhood.

Her professional experience includes working at luxury travel PR firm, The Bradford Group, interning at Young & Rubicam in the strategy and planning department, and being a maître’d at a restaurant on the Upper East Side.

When she’s not working or at school, Ashley enjoys the outdoors, the gym, and going to shows.
