The first boat held 274 migrants, after docking it took the crew about 30 minutes to start getting people off of the boat. After the Italian Coast Guard “L. Diatillo” docked, more migrants than expected needed medical attention.
At the crack of dawn, the first of three ships arrived in the port of Valencia, Spain. This ship carried 274 of the 629 migrants that were about to enter Valencia. The following ship arrived after 9 a.m. and the last ship around noon. The migrants on the ships will each be analyzed for medical attention, as well as receiving psychological assistance. They will be provided multiple translators as well as religious help in order to make their transition into a new country go smoothly.
The third ship was the only one where the people on land could see the migrants clearly on board. They sat on the deck side by side from the moment they pulled into the port, until about an hour after the boat docked.
The president of Doctors without Borders Spain (pictured) was one of the last people to leave the media section on Sunday afternoon. Once the migrants were on land, they would be bused to another location. Closer to the beach, there was an aid center set up.
