Another tiny trick on searching in 2Do

2Do really is a very interesting app as it continuously surprises you with small features. Nothing like “eastern egg”, but still makes you smile when you bumps into it randomly and realize that particular thing you get used to has a better way to achieve.

Like today, I found this when I was reading the official article from 2Do on searching: there is a shortcut to turn on/off “All List Search” right below the search bar. As I am usually inside some customized smart list, not a particular list, searching in the global scope used to be a tedious operation. On iOS, I would have to scroll down to find the “All” list, tap on it, then move back to the top, tap the magnify glass, then type in what I want to search.

3 steps, before I even starting to type in the search term. Turns out, the “eye” icon below the search bar is the switch to turn on global search. After it’s on, 2Do will search in all the lists, not just the current one.

It’s still pity that if you are like me and spend most of your time in smart lists instead of lists, this would not do much of a help: after you tap search when you are inside a smart list, the search bar will be pre-filled with the search query of the current smart list. You either have to clear it to search what you want, and bear the risk to accidentally hit the “renew” button besides the search bar and lose your precious smart list, or you have to pick an actual list to start your search. The way I adapt for now is to use Inbox list as the start point, since it will always be pinned to the top and right below the search button.
