The pen is mightier than the sword!

Let us understand the difference

People actually do not understand the meaning of pen. Pen stands for expression for literature. Literally, the pen has no power as compared to the striking power of the sword. And it is true that literature or writing wields far more power than the arms can ever do. Battles are fought over a certain period of time within a particular area which influences events but in a limited way. On the other hand, the effect of the pen is universal. Sword has a physical effect, while pen affects the mind, the intellect, and the spirit.

The message of great writers, poets, philosophers, and spiritual people such as Mahatma Gandhi, Buddha is a universal appeal and valid for all times and for all climes. If Pen is with the right hands it can shape the people's minds, thoughts, and heart everything on the right track. Whereas, arms represent violence they have in most cases a destructive effect. The pen may exercise a healing power also we have examples from various novels. The superiority of the pen also lies in the fact that even where the sword is used and success has attained the use of a pen is necessary to consolidate that success.

But this fact of the superiority of the pen should not lead us to think that the sword has no value. When the use of pen fails, when coaxing, negotiations fail then sword could be an alternative. Arms are used to ensure the victory of good over the bad or evil as Lord Ram had to use arms to teach Ravana a lesson. If the great war of Mahabharata had not been fought the evil forces of Kauravas would have continued to spread injustice among the people. We have examples from today's world also, many subject people resorted to arms to regain their freedom from the colonial masters. The strength of any country is measured by the strength of its army and its military potential.

The above description of the importance and power of a sword should not let us forget the immense power of the Non-violent pen. In the independence of India, writing journalism, all the letters, newspapers, novels, books, essays written in their mother tongue played a very important role in influencing the people and making them walk and fight on the right track for their own independence. Similarly during the French Revolution the identical slogans such as liberty, equality, fraternity raised in the writings then, now changed the whole history of France. It is a matter of common knowledge of people that what Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Madan Mohan Malaviya in India and Benjamin Franklin, Hamilton in America could do by their writings could never have been achieved by a Robespierre, a Napoleon or a Hitler. What Gandhi could achieve by the use of his pen could never have been achieved by thousands of emperors ruling by force of their arms.

And then, there comes the mightiest power of the press. From when Mrs. Indira Gandhi had to remove the state of emergency and order fresh elections in 1977 to the popularity of Baba ka Dhaba. From banning of 3 Talak to the popularity of Lucknow girl. The press plays a major role.

Thus, it is absolutely true that sword wields power, and it is equally true that pen wields more power and in the present world when the means of communication is very easy( social media, 4g/5g network speed) and quick and press material find access to everywhere within a short time. The pen come and plays its powerful role within the nation and outside the nation.
