A Weird True Story
5 Golden Beings
In My Room Where They Don’t Belong
Oh, I saw them all right.
No way I could miss them.
They were standing right beside my bed.
Problem was, I wasn’t supposed to see them.
No, I’m pretty sure of that.
So, why did they hang around long enough to make sure I did?
Because they were really startled by my eyes suddenly wide open.
They were caught by surprise that I’d awakened.
You see, I caught them watching.
Staring, if you must know.
That is all I really know for certain.
I don’t even have a personal explanation for you, unusual in such events.
I have no idea why they were watching.
I have no idea why they were five.
I do know they were real.
Yes, I know this is where many of us will part ways. You’ll probably be polite, as we always are to those who tweak our nose, but the smirk is there. I know it.
Anyway, these five golden beings were intelligent, highly so, and quite aware that I had seen them. They knew that I was startled, and they were a little amused by that.
I was shocked to see them.
Frozen, actually.
Okay, totally paralyzed.
But look, they were standing in my room right beside my bed, staring down at me with that superior demeanor such beings have.
My eyes slammed shut immediately, almost of their own accord.
When I reopened them — again almost immediately — they were gone.
Leaving me to wonder, to explain, to create some kind of story.
Then return to my daily grind.
Only to be haunted — time and time again — by the lucid memory of this very weird event … in this unexplained life.
So, finally, I just had to share.
I know you have a story, too.
