A guide to filming 📹
Tips and tricks to help you get the best footage!
As I’ve continued to produce videos for our Trust, I have found that although the majority of people do prefer us to handle everything that is involved in the process of creating a video, some do prefer being more hands-on and doing the filming themselves.
I’ve put together this little handy crib sheet of the things I’ve learnt that could help if you are filming videos (and your editor will love you for it too).
Number 1
Always film in landscape mode (phone flipped to the side). This will allow you to get more in the shot and works better across the board.
Number 2
Always try to use the rear-facing camera as generally this is better quality. However, if you are filming yourself and do not have someone to hold the camera, we advise you use the front-facing camera as this will allow you to make sure you are in frame.
Number 3
Avoid filming towards the light as this could result in the person or object looking faded as the light will overpower them.
Number 4
Avoid zooming as this reduces the quality of the footage. If the person or object is too far away, we always advise you to move closer to the person or object rather than zooming.
Number 5
Check your footage before leaving the shoot. As with every bit of technology, it can go wrong so always do a quick check of your footage to make sure the video and audio were captured.
I hope you find these tips useful and see the improvements they make to the footage. Happy Filming! 📹
