Heralded by cries of “repeal and replace” from a party with a legislative majority, it was clear that going into 2017 the Affordable Care Act’s days were numbered. In the final month of the year, Congress passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and with it repealed the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate. In 2018, what’s going to happen to insurance markets in the U.S. without the individual mandate? Will we enter a “death-spiral”? Would a single-payer system actually work? Host Chris Robichaud is joined healthcare policy expert Emily Schlichting to discuss the future of healthcare.

Emily Schlichting

Emily is a candidate for a joint Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and Master’s in Business Administration at Harvard Business School. She spent the past five years working in the U.S. Senate and Department of Health and Human Services. Most recently, she served as professional staff on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP). Before that, she served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Legislation at the Department of Health and Human Services and on the Senate HELP Committee as junior legislative staff.

Emily is a 2011 Truman Scholar from Nebraska and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Nebraska with a double major in Political Science and Communication Studies and a minor in Latin..
