This Week in Wood—First Issue

5 Craftspeople videos worth your time.

I have recently begun the mind swelling process of consuming every video and blog I can that has to do with making things out of wood.

Here are the videos for this week that I think are really valuable to the learner either by showing a process, educating on tools or just freaking cool craftsmanship.

Found something cool you would like to share in TWiW? Just share it here or on the internets with a hashtag #twiw and I will check it out.

1. How do you sharpen chisels?

Matt Cremona may not be a “professional” woodworker in the strict sense but his kind and unassuming delivery makes even the hardened cynic in me quiet down and watch every minute of his videos. This time he talks about how he sharpens chisels, which seems to be one of his staples in the shop.

2. Honest Tool Reviews

Never again will I listen to a blithering tool slobberer who just shows me how cool a tool is without discussing its inherent problems ☺

3. Log to Legs

Jimmy Diresta is a powerhouse Maker who is one of my favorites with his no nonsense timelapse videos. This time he cut down a dead tree on his property and turned into super cool table legs.

4. Carving Meerschaum Pipes

It’s not wood but it is cool. Meerschaum (German for Foam of the Sea) is a soft white mineral that is kind of like soapstone. How we figured out that it would be good for pipes is beyond me but man it’s cool to watch the process.

5. Izzy Swan — Incredible folding picnic table

Izzy has been around for awhile and always has some interesting things to watch especially when it comes to making tool jigs. This table is a excellent example of why I subscribe to his channel, basically he made an “Optimus Table”.
