Here at Left and RightMesh, “Impact Your Community” is one of our ten core values and we are proud of our award-winning Community/Team Engagement Program, which was recognized as ‘Best in BC’ by the BCTIA two years in a row at the Technology Impact Awards. We live and breathe this core value and we are incredibly proud that our team collectively volunteered over 1,000 hours in our Communities during 2017!

Not only does Left provide unlimited paid time off to Lefties to volunteer in their Communities, but our Co-Founders will personally thank you when you leave the office early to volunteer. We encourage each other to get out in our communities and get involved individually, as a team, and sometimes we even bring our children along — inspiring the next generation to Make a Mark.

In September a large group of Lefties spent time grocery shopping, preparing a meal (Taco Tuesday!), to 200 individuals staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver. This is just one example of how we love getting out in our communities and giving back as a team. Individually, our team members go to local schools to teach coding, inspiring children to get involved in technology as a career. Another Lefty spends his weekends counselling people in need through a crisis hotline. And one Lefty spends several hours a month with her young daughter at a local homeless shelter preparing and serving meals. We could go on….. We are so proud of every Lefty for their Community involvement!

We were also excited to welcome 100 children from grades 3–7 to our office for an Hour of Codeon December 1st, which is a global movement held in conjunction with Computer Science Education Week. Tens of thousands of children in 180+ countries participated across the globe.

The holiday season is a time that many want to give back, and that was certainly the case around Left’s office! We sponsored a large family through the Maple Ridge Christmas Hamper Society, making it an extra special Christmas for a family in our local community. A group of Lefties with our children as young as five years old served dinner at a local soup kitchen. And our Lefties and their families made a mark on the global community by filling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, which is a program that flies shoeboxes filled with goodies to children in need all around the world.

As a team of 35 in Maple Ridge, our Lefties are each volunteering a considerable amount of their time. Although we are proud of this number, we know that we can do better and have already begun planning some new and exciting group volunteering initiatives for 2018. Please be sure to visit our website and follow us on Social Media to see all of the ways that we work to support our local and the global community.
