10–20–2020 Mid-Term Review Feedback
Thoughts on presentations:
- Many have already started generating storyboards, sketches and concepts. They have been received well. I was surprised at the breadth of projects.
- A lot of the researches seemed to resonate with people, especially interviews.
Despite being a product design project, I did not give enough time for product analysis. This was largely due to my decision to allocate more time for framing & research in order to validate the reason for my opportunity.
There needs to be a more thorough analysis of the products that currently exist in aiding people filling out these forms, but a lot of them are software and apps that often live in phones and tablets that I have little control over.
This is also partly the reason why I think I can re-imagine the entire process of checking-in to the hospital, not just for people with blindness/VI, but even for people with full-vision. This means that I may have to do further research into this process, and perhaps draw up the system map and clarify the current process of checking-in.
The feedback regarding stationary VS. portable products was very insightful, and I would like to explore ways in which visitors can seamlessly check-in and move to the waiting room as they wait for their names to be called.
I was able to talk to a friend of mine who is a medical student at a large health care facility in Korea, and have resonated with the need for a overhaul in pen & paper format of filling in information about patients, and an overall systemic change around checking patients in.
Here are some resources he guided me to:
I would like to delve more into the other side of the healthcare experience. How are the check-in forms processed? Where do they go? Different healthcare facilities will have different systems in place; knowing what systems UPMC has in place would be very helpful.
