THORChain Dev Update for Weeks 130–132, 31 Jan — 13 Feb; Milestone Update, Seed Unlock, THORGames Launch, Network & Community Updates

Summary

THORGames for Synth has started, plans for the Soft Cap removal and Kill Switch are being drawn up, ledger support for most chains has been added, new Node Operators are joining — the protocol is positioning for Mainnet. Milestones have been set, the netwok is steady, and while no network updates were released, the community has been busy!

Milestone Status Update

  1. Terra Progress

2. THORGames for Synths — currently live!

3. Soft Cap raised to 24M RUNE.

THORGames for Synths Launched

THORGames for Synths Round 1 started on 10th February (block 120,716) and will go for one week. This is a public Beta testing program for THORFi Synthetics with over a 10,000 RUNE Bounty budget. Full details at here.

Seed RUNE Unlock

Several seed investors in RUNE were approached to have their vested RUNE unlocked in order to run validators.

Extending from ‘All in on THORChain Security’ article, many investors have agreed to run Nodes. This supports the removal of the Soft Cap by increasing the Total Bonded.

Soft Cap Removal

The Soft Cap has been in place since the network started. It has enabled progressive relaxation of the guardrails used during Chaosnet. With the current maturity of the network and with more Node Operators coming online, soon this guardrail will no longer be required.

The Soft Cap will be removed with the Terra Launch, Terra will kill the soft cap! #TerraKillsTheCaps.

Kill Switch Update

With THORChain’s mainnet on the horizon, a plan to treat IOU tokens in the future, and a deadline to upgrade is being discussed by the community. No deadline has been set. See more information here.

Ledger Support Added

Ledger Support for $BTC, $DOGE,$LTC, $BCH was added to THORSwap, Ledger support for $ETH is coming. It is expected other exchanges will follow, giving more choice to users.

Next Milestones

  1. Complete Testing of Terra in Stagenet
  2. Complete THORGames for Synths
  3. Launch Terra in Chaosnet
  4. Launch Synths in Chaosnet
  5. Removal of the Soft Cap

Background Activities

  1. Hard Fork Testing — Documented disaster recovery plan to allow quick network recovery.
  2. Upgrade Cosmos SDK to version 0.45
  3. Adding new Validators, working towards the target of 100 Active Validators.

Network Updates

Increased TSS Signing

In a recent update, new logic was added so that any pool below MinRuneDepthForYggdrasil is kept on Asgard vaults. This allows a higher percentage of low-depth (low volume pools) to be on a single vault. This stops large outbound gas fees but increases the TSS Signing requirements on Node Operator.

No Network Changes.
