Integration Details

Edge has completed its integration with THORChain and will be offering its users access to decentralized native cross-chain swaps. Edge has been added as an ecosystem wallet and exchange to THORChain.com.

Edge and THORChain’s core values of self-custody, open source code, and user freedom are strongly aligned. Edge’s integration with THORChain will enhance the user experience by providing decentralized swap routes without compromising on speed or execution.

THORChain supports swaps between native assets on eight (8) blockchains: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Binance Chain, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Cosmos Hub, and Avalanche C-Chain.

Q&A with Paul Puey, CEO of Edge

  1. What is Edge and why does it matter?

Edge is a self-custody exchange. This matters because in the cryptocurrency world most people are still looking to invest in various assets and currently go to centralized exchanges to do so. Edge provides a lot of the functionality of centralized exchanges while giving users the self-custody that crypto was designed for. With that comes a higher level of privacy, autonomy, and security.

2. What chains does Edge support and at what capacity?

Edge supports the following chains: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Monero, Ethereum, Zcash, Polkadot, Ethereum Classic, Binance Chain, Solana, Bitcoin SV, Litecoin, XRP, Rootstock, Stellar, Dash, Tezos, Digibyte, Vertcoin, Ravencoin, QTUM, Feathercoin, FIRO, Telos, Fantom, Hedera, Polygon, Avalanche, CELO, Doge, and FIO. Beyond this, Edge supports a multitude of notable Ethereum-based tokens such as Chainlink, Aave, Dai, and more.

Most chains are supported with exchange functionality via crypto-to-crypto swaps. We support a few of these for purchases and sales to/from fiat. For all assets, users can send and receive them to/from any other wallet they choose.

3. There are so many different wallets, what makes Edge different?

There are many wallets because the definition of a wallet is vague, ambiguous, and does not accurately describe the functionality of an app. Edge differentiates itself by being a self-custody exchange with rich functionality to buy, sell, and trade crypto. Most of all, Edge differentiates with its unique key management architecture which eliminates the need for backing up 12–24 random words. Edge provides a Web2 login style interface but with all the security, privacy, and autonomy benefits of Web3.

4. What value does Edge add to the THORChain ecosystem?

Edge provides a seamless way for users to swap dozens of assets using THORChain with a world class support team ready to answer calls for any issues users might run into. As THORChain integration is implemented in the Edge SDK platform, it also allows other developers to easily take advantage of THORChain swaps in their own application with no additional work and with the Edge team maintaining the integration code for the open source community.

Paul is CEO and Co-Founder of Edge, a self-custody exchange and security platform for crypto. Edge (formerly Airbitz) has won accolades including being one of the top 3 mobile apps for bitcoin in the 2014 Blockchain Awards, being voted in the ‘Top 50 FinTech Companies to Watch’ by AlwaysOn Inc., and receiving first place in the Inside Bitcoins 2015 and Coin Agenda 2016 pitch competitions.
