Norse Mythology Competition Ft. Hrafna

Overview

To celebrate the release of Chaosnet, THORChain has teamed up with popular Icelandic Youtuber Hrafna to host a competition to pronounce the names from Norse Mythology. Hrafna’s videos on pronouncing Norse Mythology names have reached over 4 million views and were the inspiration for this competition. (It’s harder than it seems!).

Community members compete by sending in a short video with their best 3 Norse Mythology pronunciations while obscuring their identities. Additional points will be awarded for creativity (scene, costume, humor).

The competition will be open for one week with submissions closing at 02:00 2nd September 2020 UTC with the winners announced one week later.

Winners of the competition will receive super rare THORChain Collectables which will soon be minted on the Ethereum blockchain, in addition to RUNE prizes. Get practicing!

Competition Details

Community members will compete for the best pronunciation of Norse Mythology names from a list of 10 selected & announced by Hrafna in the video above.

There are no restrictions on entering, anyone from within or outside the THORChain community may enter; and it is not a requirement to be an existing RUNE holder.

The competition will begin 26th August 2020 when this announcement is made, and close on 2nd September 2020 with the final submission accepted at 2am.

To enter, record your best 3 pronunciations with your identity hidden and upload it to Youtube, Vimeo or any other video hosting website. Provide the link to the video in the submission form provided below.

Entry Criteria

Submissions must meet the following entry criteria:

  • Minimum video resolution of 720p. Entries below this resolution will be excluded.
  • Length to run between 15–30sec. Entries under 15 sec & above 30 sec will be excluded.
  • There must be no personally identifiable information whatsoever in the video. Your face must be concealed at all times.
  • No text in the video — do not edit text, logos or anything else in the video.
  • Adults only — no children should be featured in the video. (more than one adult is okay)
  • Introduce your entry — in any creative way you see fit.
  • Pronounce 3 names — select any 3 from the list of 10 mentioned above
  • Sign off your entry — ‘THORChain. Chaosnet is here.’

How to Enter

Once you’ve recorded your video, upload it to a video hosting service of your choice (Youtube, Vimeo etc) and fill out the following google form. You will need 4 things:

  1. Telegram handle — to announce winners & for the team to contact you
  2. Video link — Link to your entry
  3. Binance chain address —for your RUNE prize
  4. Ethereum address — for your collectable (NFT) prize

No changes to the competition entry will be accepted after submission. This includes your Binance Chain & Ethereum address. RUNE & NFT prizes will be be sent to your nominated addresses regardless of whether you are in custody of the keys or not.

Prizes

Winners will receive super rare THORChain norse themed collectibles, to be announced soon; in addition to RUNE prizes.

THORChain Collectibles

The THORChain Collectibles span all 9 NORSE worlds, with characters ranging from Surtr to Odin. Collectibles are given out based on Amount of Staked Rune (stake-based), First Staking Transaction (time-based), as well as lottery give-aways and other campaigns to be announced.

1st Prize: 2500 RUNE and Búri collectable.

2nd Prize: 1500 RUNE and Móðguð collectable.

3rd Prize: 750 RUNE and Sinmara collectable.

All competition entries will receive Garmr, the blood-stained wolf that is the guardian of Hel’s gate.

Judging

Winners will be judged by Hrafna after 2nd September and will be announced within 1 week of competition closing. While native Icelandic speakers are encouraged to participate, the competition is designed for non-native speakers and will be judged according to effort & creativity.

All decisions for the competition are final. A condition of entry is that you authorise the team and Hrafna to use your video without restriction in whatever context & medium for promotional activities. Do not enter unless you’re comfortable for the video to be shared.
