This article is a summary of the various desktop “short-cut” keys available in Thortspace. It will start out being very incomplete, and become more complete over time.

Editing short cuts-

  • Control+a Command+a — Select all
  • Control+x c v — Cut, copy, paste
  • Control+Arrow left right — Move cursor to beginning of next and previous words
  • Hold down the shift key while moving the cursor to extend the selection

Zooming short-cuts

  • On desktop machines Use the Arrow Up and Arrow Down keys (when you’re not editing text). Each time you tap the arrow key you will zoom in or out by one useful step.
(Aside: Arrow keys Left and Right will move you to each group of Thorts on the sphere in turn, bringing that group to the front and centre of the sphere.)
  • On desktop machines Use the Control+w and Control+s keys or Command+w and Command+s on Mac. Each time you tap the keyboard key you will zoom in or out by one useful step.

Navigation short-cuts

  • Return key — lifts the current thort up, or if it is up puts it down again
  • Tab key — put down the current editing Thort and lift up the next one for editing.
  • Spacebar — inserts a new thort. Hold it down to insert a stream of new thorts. All the thorts that land before you let go of it will be added to the same group.
  • One Desktop machines you can cycle through Next and Previous Arrangements on a sphere by pressing Control+p or Command+p on Mac (“p” standing for Previous) and Control+n or Command+n (“n” standing for Next).
  • You can use the Arrow Keys, Left and Right, to cycle through each of your groups of Thorts (bringing each one in turn to front and centre).
  • Control+Click or Command+Click on a series of Thorts selects multiple thorts.
  • In the windows version: Alt+Click on a far-side group brings it to front and centre.
  • In the windows version: Control+Right-click will bring all the selected thorts (potentially from different groups) together to form a single new group at the clicked-on location.

While playing Journeys in Present Mode

  • Left and Right Arrow Keys: To go to the next and previous viewpoints in the Journey
  • Escape Key: To exit from a playing Journey while it is on some step in the middle without having to play through to the end

Don’t try this at home — oh alright do then

  • Also if you’re feeling adventurous try Control+L / Command+L ! (Press it again to turn it off.)
