Using Thortspace offline
The Thortspace app works offline as well as online … it has a sphere cache which it syncs to the cloud when you go online. It also does automatic inteligent merging of divergent copies of what started out as the “same” sphere.
Things that don’t work without online access are:
(1) Sync between devices
(2) Real-time collaboration
(3) Integrated picture search (which is powered by Bing)
(4) Full-text content search of spheres
(5) Publishing to the web
(6) Sharing spheres with other users (for obvious reasons)
Just because you’re a subscriber to Thortspace’s Premium service, that doesn’t mean you have to always be online to use Thortspace or benefit from the service.
Here I am parked up, ready to do a school pickup. Parking at the school is terrible; if you don’t get there 20 minutes early you have to park up the road and walk your child all the way up to whereever that is.
But my iPad doesn’t have a cellular connection so what can I usefully do for
20 minutes sitting in the car?
Fortunately Thortspace provides a solution.
My account is logged in, and I am working on one of the spheres in my cache, but I have no internet connection…
Thortspace doesn’t mind !
Next time I am online using Thortspace, the App will automatically upload all the changes I made while offline, and merge them with changes from other collaborators if there have been any.
