Leadership is one of the best ingredients that make a person highly valuable and honoured in a society.

There are following 10 qualities that make good leaders.

1) Honesty and Integrity:

D. Eisenhower, the 34th US president, once said,

“The supreme quality of leadership is unquestionable integrity. Without it, no real success is possible…”

Honesty and integrity are two important components that make a good leader. It is beyond any doubt that leaders succeed when they adhere to their values. Without ethics, it will not possible.

2) Confidence:

To be a good leader, you should be confident enough to ensure thar others follow your commands. If you are not sure about your decisions, your followers will not follow you. For it, you should show some swagger and assertiveness to get the respect of your subordinates.

3) Inspire Others:

It is the most difficult task for a leader to inspire others to follow. According to me, it is possible only by setting a good example. As John Adams says,

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

If you persuade your subordinates, you can overcome every challenge easily.

4) Commitment and Passion:

Your followers look up to you and you have to be passionate about them. When they see you getting your hands dirty, they will also give their best. If they find lack of passion in you, they will not stay motivated.

5) Good Communicator:

Words have the power to motivate people and make them do unimaginable. If you are unable to communicate your message to your subordinates, you can never be a good leader.

6) Decision-making Capabilities:

A leader should have the capability to take the right decisions at the right time. Decisions taken by leaders have a profound impact on masses. A leader should think hard before taking a decision, but once a decision is taken, stand by it.

7) Accountability:

When it comes to accountability, you should follow the approach given by Arnold Glasow,

“A good leader takes little more than his share of the blame and little less than his share of the credit”.

If your subordinates do good things, do appreciate them.

8) Delegation and Empowerment:

Focus on key responsibilities while empowering your followers and delegating tasks to them. Delegate tasks to your subordinates and see how they perform.

9) Creativity and Innovation:

What separates a leader from a follower? Steve Jobs answers this question in this way:

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower”.

To get ahead in today’s fast-faced world, a leader must be creative and innovative.

10) Empathy:

Leaders should develop empathy with their followers. Understanding the problems of your followers and feeling their pain is the first step to becoming an effective leader.
