Whatever truth you’re looking for as a new writer, I hope you find them within the lines of this post.

I compiled this short guide from my experiences and struggles.

Spiced with large doses of inspiration to motivate and fuel your drive, I hope it guides your creative journey, too.

12 Writing Lessons:

— Your learning process never ends. There's always something new to learn.

— Keep an open mind with every story you write. There's always room to tweak something if it isn't working.

— Shame should have no hold over your creative art. You’re the director of your story. Express freely, without inhibitions.

— Spice up your work with subtle things about your life. It makes for inside jokes and good laughs.

— Don’t write when you are hungry or sleepy. Your script will look like a war zone. Trust me, I know.

— Learn to embrace your failures. It’s an inevitable part of your creative process.

— Don’t lose yourself to the demands of chasing fame. Write for yourself and your readers.

— Don't hire an editor if you cannot deal with harsh truths. Editing is a brutal business.

— Don't ask for reviews if you cannot stomach honesty. To improve, you need constructive and sincere criticisms of your work.

— In the long run, you’ll have to choose what works for you. When you’re at that point, you’ll know.

— Define your concept of consistency and master it. Your creative journey is not the same as others. Do, you.

— Remember to love your art, as it is one with you and born of you.

6 Advice:

— Be grateful for your creative gift. Accept it, nurture it, and never give up on it.

— Approach your creative journey with a growth mindset, not with uncertainty.

— Make bold decisions with your art. The results won’t break you; they’ll build you.

— Unshame your craft and create art that’s true to you. Write what you want and be bold about it.

— Fall in love with yourself, your art, your strengths, and your flaws. It’s all the parts that makeup who you are as a writer.

— If you want to thrive as a writer, you must dedicate yourself fully. No push-pulls. No halfway stops. Commit fully.

3 Truths:

— There’s room for you to make your mark in the world. Seize it.

— Every piece of work you create takes you a step closer to your masterpiece.

— Your art reflects who you are, your experiences, and your journey. Let these parts of you flow through your words.

Final thoughts —

Don’t throw these words away.

Take out your notebook and write out the lines you’ll always want to reflect on. Keep it as a souvenir for the future.

You might thank me later.
