Sometimes it can be hard to muster the energy to write about all of the political turmoil within our country. To read the headlines as they roll in is enough to feel like I’m neck deep in despair. It’s not every day that I can marshal the willpower to keep up with all of the chaos as it unfolds.
But making people feel inundated is part of the authoritarian strategy. The pessimism and numbness that so many of us are feeling is by design. The flurry of updates about Project 2025 mandates come to life are made to convince us that the battle is already lost.
With each day that goes by, The United States enters into less and less familiar waters. The world’s richest man is now in direct control of the country’s pocket book, and with the flip of a switch, he has the ability to cut off our seniors’ Social Security. But where I still find a cause for optimism is in the fact that if Elon Musk were to do a thing like that, he would risk the nation devolving into a revolution. As prices continue to soar and this trade war kicks into full gear, many of the voters who came out to polls in November over promises of cheaper goods and groceries are already poised to defect.
Much of my feeling of paralysis these past couple of days has stemmed from my growing paranoia that our democracy is already over. It hardly seems that Trump’s administration is even operating with the…
