Present Day: The Cadet Area, Hardcore Two-Four, October 2023

Vince and I continued to linger in Hardcore-24 past the official open house hours. I stared down my dorm room hallway, which was carpeted when I was a cadet, but now it has a hard-polished floor. Our room was in the third or fourth alcove on the right, and the “Behind-the-Door” room was in the first or second. The squadron Air-Officer-Commanding (AOC) was chatting with us, and she didn’t seem to be in any rush. But my mind was elsewhere.
