The Best Diaper for Our Planet Is The One That Never Was

My three-month-old does her morning poop in a potty.
Oh, but it’s real. And she’s not the first. Our firstborn also did it.
My husband was skeptical at first, but after noticing at the hospital that our newly born daughter often pooped again right after a diaper change, he wanted to give it a try. And it worked!
So many diaper changes were avoided.
The method we used has been coined “elimination communication.”
Before my first was born, and as an environmentally conscious person and lifelong learner, I had the perfect opportunity to conduct extensive research on how to minimize the 2,500–3,000 diapers that babies use in their first year. What feels like too much free time to have been real was a result of:
- Not having a child,
- Having waited for a baby for four years as we went through in vitro fertilization, and
- Getting several hours back a week due to the COVID lockdown.
