Many people are hyper-focused on the destination, rather than learning how to enjoy the process.

We become easily overwhelmed by our goals and dreams allowing stress levels to rise. And the whole time we put an immense amount of pressure on ourselves only to wake up feeling depleted.

Most people reward themselves when they have reached their destination. But what if it takes months or years to achieve the results you desire?

No wonder why we wake up feeling unmotivated and uninspired.

So let’s learn how to love the journey, appreciate the challenges, and celebrate the small wins.

“When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don’t have to wait to give yourself permission to be happy. You can be satisfied anytime your system is running.” — James Clear

When you fall in love with the process, you’ll realize that you can actually go further than what you imagined.

An effective strategy that can be used to increase your interest in a task is to add immediate rewards.

According to a study conducted by researchers Kaitlin Woolley and Ayelet Fishback published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, immediate and frequent rewards for achieving small tasks increases an individual’s motivation and enjoyment. This establishes a positive experience and allows people to remain interested and engaged in the activity.

When considering the neurobiology aspect of rewarding, it’s understood that receiving rewards increases dopamine (a pleasure hormone) levels in the brain. The pleasurable emotions that arise after this neurotransmitter is released encourages people to remain persistent and repeat the behavior.

Utilize the dopamine reward system to increase your performance and motivation. Showing up will become much easier because you’ll actually begin to enjoy the process.

So how can you start celebrating your small wins today?

What’s your ultimate goal? And what small tasks have to get done to achieve that reality?

After every small task, reward yourself. Perhaps it’s eating a small piece of chocolate or pampering yourself at home. You deserve it!
