South Philadelphia — The tradition of kelly green has returned to South Philadelphia. The Eagles are unveiling the retro-styled jerseys as alternate uniforms for a couple of games this season, harkening back to the days of Eagles defensive dominance under Buddy Ryan and NFL toughness under Dick Vermeil.

The Eagles began to incorporate green in into their uniforms for the 1935 NFL Season, shortly after replacing the Frankfurt Yellow Jackets as the professional football team in Philadelphia when future NFL Commissioner Bert Bell was granted an expansion club.

The modern Eagles Kelly green uniforms that fans remember was developed in 1974 by Joseph A. Scirrotto Jr. The Eagles changed their uniform color to midnight green in 1996. Since then, the Eagles wore kelly green again in 2010 as a tribute to the 1960 NFL Championship Eagles Team.

The Eagles also have a new wordmark which will be released on their jerseys for the 2024 Season.

It is unclear if the Eagles will wear their usual alternate jerseys in 2023.
