Work and challenges at home mostly predict little chance of keeping you and your boss satisfied. Everybody has challenges to deal with. Some get way more than others.
When you don’t want to ask for help and ‘keep up the good work’, preferably with a smile, probably nobody at work will notice anything. But is that a good thing? What if your boss would rather be helpful and supportive?
What if he notices you’re doing a good job, but doesn’t know you’re doing this,
- while taking care of your aging parents
- while dealing with your own invisible health issues
- while taking care of your spouse with mental health issues
- while being single and grieving
- while taking care of your child with special educational needs.
What if he knows, but doesn’t know how to communicate with you about your situation? You are doing a good job, so why disturb this?
