World War II: The Pacific Theatre

I attended the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, from 1989 to 93. My 30–year reunion, which occurred October 12–14, 2023, inspired me to write this series of articles. I had no plans to write them until I returned home and had time to reflect on the weekend’s events. USAFA did not respond to a request for comment.

I don’t present reunion events chronologically for narrative purposes, and I include frequent flashbacks to my time as a cadet at…
