For years, writing has been an integral part of my life—a daily ritual, a passion, a creative outlet. But as the demands of work and personal life mounted, I realized the need for a break, a respite from the relentless typing and ideation. So, I made the bold decision to take a three-month hiatus from writing, spanning July, August, and September. This article delves into my journey, my experiences, and how life unfolded during this break from the written word.

The Initial Uncertainty

As I embarked on this hiatus, uncertainty gnawed at me. Would I feel lost without my daily writing routine? Would my creativity wither, or would it thrive in new, uncharted territories? The first few days were admittedly disorienting. My fingers itched to tap the keyboard, my mind raced with unwritten stories, but I persevered. It took great discipline to stay off writing (some days, discipline even failed me 😂).

Reconnecting with the World

One of the immediate benefits of this hiatus was reconnecting with the world around me. July was a month of rediscovery. I savored leisurely breakfasts, embarked on spontaneous road trips, and explored hiking trails in my neighborhood. Conversations with friends deepened, and I found myself fully present, living in the moment. Life beyond the written word was vibrant, and I reveled in it.

The Art of Stillness

August brought a new lesson: the art of stillness. Without the constant hum of my keyboard, I embraced the quiet moments. I meditated under the morning sun, sat by serene riverside, and relished the symphony of nature’s sounds. The power of silence began to unveil itself, offering clarity and solace.

Creative Rebirth

September marked a creative rebirth. Freed from the confines of deadlines and word counts, my mind started to meander. I explored other things, dabbled in photography, and even began learning to play the guitar (can’t put my mind into it but was fun). These artistic pursuits breathed new life into my creativity. Ideas flowed like a river, and when I returned to writing, I did so with renewed vigor.

The Conclusion of My Hiatus

As my three-month hiatus drew to a close, I looked back at the journey with gratitude. Life without writing had been a revelation. It was a reminder that there’s a world outside the written word—a world rich with experiences, connections, and moments of quiet beauty.

Lessons Learned

Taking a break from writing was a courageous decision, one that brought forth a plethora of experiences and lessons. It reminded me that creativity is not confined to a single juncture, and that life’s wonders extend far beyond the keyboard. If you ever find yourself yearning for a hiatus from your creative pursuits, I encourage you to take that leap. It might just lead you to the discoveries, experiences, and insights that fuel your creative soul when you return.
