There are many mysteries surrounding high body temperature, but what we know for sure is that fever affects all of us, some birds, animals, and even some plants, and has accompanied us over millions of years, but at high health and economical cost; so why and how do we get a fever?.

What is a fever? And why do we get it?

Fever is a rise in body temperature above its average rate. The normal human body temperature ranges between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius, depending on the person’s age and the location where the temperature is measured. The body temperature also varies throughout the day. Each value above 37.5 degrees Celsius is usually considered a rise in body temperature.

And it is not a disease but a symptom and an indicator of infection or some disease. In most cases, the fever is mild and goes away spontaneously within a few days. One of the most common causes of high body temperature is:

  • Viral infection.
  • Bacterial infection.
  • Heat exhaustion.
  • Besides some inflammatory conditions: such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammation of the lining of the joints.
