Communication generally requires active listening to be effective — otherwise, we talk at each other, as evidenced by the increasing toxicity of the post-invasion communication from both sides in Ukraine that obfuscates the simplicity that a powerful nation has invaded and intends to destroy its sovereign neighbour.

Adopting the mantra and methodologies of the fictional Borg in Star Trek seems to be Putin’s strategy where “resistance is futile.”

Nation and company leaders can be intentionally deceptive and misleading. They drive relentlessly toward fulfilling their interests regardless of others’. By understanding a leader’s nature, we are better able to deal with them effectively.

Some years ago, a good friend commented that I was a “complex” person, so I set about trying to figure out if it was a compliment or not. This resulted in a poem that, I guess, aimed at concise interpretation.
