Yes, the Trump Hitler Analogy Is Appropriate

The parallels are too clear to ignore

With the election now upon us and both campaigns having already delivered their closing arguments to the American people, the opinions around Donald Trump have never varied as widely as they do today. Those who support him often believe he’s something akin to a savior. They think he’s the man who will singlehandedly save this nation from collapse.

Those who oppose him fear him with a visceral terror. They consider the threat that he poses as one equivalent to the great tyrants of history, and that if he takes office, it could represent the end of this great and enduring experiment that we call The United States of America.

Though I’ve proudly voted for a Democrat in each election since 2016, I’m hardly what those on the Right would call a “Liberal.” I take issue with my political party, and find fault in the politicians who lead it. I believe that issues have more nuance than many progressives on my side of the aisle might argue.

As a Jew, it’s sometimes felt strange to hear the way Trump has drawn continual comparisons to Adolf Hitler. The sentiment that Trump and Hitler are one and the same is hardly uncommon.
