Exploding heads may be ok in video games — not in real life

The article below is a must-read. It is worrying too.

An AI Was Trained To Play Minecraft With 70,000 Hours Of YouTube Videos

Now, I am all for great gaming content. My daughters play Minecraft. They love it.

The issue though is, that only 33% of gaming content is non-violent or combat-free.

Two in every 3 games are violent.

“I will kill you” or “I am killed” is part of the gaming vocabulary of a standard ten-year-old.

AI models feed off data. Two-thirds of the data it feeds are violent. The reward-reinforced actions they learn are violent.

In a violence-implicit model, a robot would develop into a highly sophisticated assassin.

Maybe it is time that we developed gaming content that is pacifist in nature? Maybe it is time we relooked at the consequences of robots learning from existing gaming content.
