We are reopening. “Phase One” as the experts and politicians are calling it.

In the meantime, memes like this are appearing throughout social media:

A picture is worth a thousand words.

The reason for such graphic depictions?

Over 5000 U.S. citizens will have passed away from Covid-19 this weekend alone. We have been hearing about “curves” and “models” for months, among the latest estimating 66,000 U.S. deaths by August 1.

Today is April 26. I am writing these words at 6:57AM Pacific time. As of this moment, the U.S. death toll is 54,352.

At our current rate, we will hit 60,000 by Wednesday, April 29, and likely 70,000 by the end of next weekend — one week from today.

May 3.

And yet protests are ongoing, and not just in Michigan, as for many our country is not opening quickly enough.
