Small Door is reimagining the veterinary experience
When Snoopy entered the Peanuts scene in 1950, he lived in the yard’s doghouse. Chances are if the comic started today, he’d likely be snuggled inside. As pet populations have grown over the last decade or two, so has the rise of the pet parent, with individuals treating their animals as a beloved extension of the family. Veterinary care to date though has not caught up. While humans have the likes of One Medical offering a more personalized, tech-forward, thoughtful patient experience, nothing exists like that on the pet front. Vet clinics are often overbooked because they rely on churning through patients, veterinarians are overworked, and premium care is not a top priority. Enter Small Door.
Josh Guttman and Florent Peyre founded Small Door with the goal of creating a veterinary experience that combines modern technology with warm hospitality and a commitment to transparency. As a pet parent himself, Josh dealt with bad waiting rooms, misdiagnoses, and a feeling that the system was broken. We were excited to support this vision and the plan to bring it to life. Small Door is exclusively servicing members who commit to a base level of quality care. The membership model allows for better alignment and experience for both pet parents and veterinarians alike. Vets have a tough job, and are often incentivized to play a volume game instead of a better care game, and wind up burnt out.
With the opening of Small Door’s first location in Greenwich Village, Josh and Florent are solving multiple problems by creating a better business that allows veterinarians to be better at their jobs so everyone wins. We are so proud of the team, for opening what is truly a stunning space and experience that has had every detail meticulously thought through.
