The protective forces in our life #7: When the Krura Grahas become benevolent
The Krura Grahas in a horoscope are the harbinger of all troubles in life. The chief among them is Shani, which governs over the Dusthanas, 6th, 8th, and 12th. He belongs to the Asura Camp and is foremost among punishments in life. The punishments are nothing but, the results of negative Karma in past life. So there is no point blaming a Graha for the punishments that we get in this life. The moment, we own and accept our own negative Karma, we find it easier to bear the pain and the misery of the punishment that we have to undergo. The other Krura grahas are Mangal, Rahu and Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are the shadowy grahas and their nature is similar to that of Shani and Mangal.
If we compare the nature of the Krura grahas are that of snakes, who are highly venomous, we will see below, how those snakes are pacified, so that they don’t harm us. When the Krura grahas are hemmed between Shubha grahas, that help in removing the venom of the Krura grahas, making them impotent to harm. When the poison of the Krura grahas removed, in their actions, how much punishing that could be, it will still be easy to bear. But for the Krura grahas to be really ineffective to harm, the horoscope should also have enough strength. Which means, the Lagna and its Kendra should be fortified. A Kundali attains strength when the Lagnesha and the Shubha Grahas occupy the Su-sthanas, Kendra, Kona, Labha, in good Rasi and Vargas, Uccha, Sva, Mulatrikona, Mitra and conjoined or aspected by Shubha Grahas, or under shubhakartari yoga. The more such yogas are present in a Kundali, the stronger it gets.
When Krura grahas are pacified, they don’t harm the Bhava they occupy or the Bhavas they aspect, their nature surprisingly undergo transformation into a docile and benevolent creature, but still less in comparison to strong Shubha Grahas. The Krura grahas while under Shubha Drsti or Yoga, when occupy their Uccha, Sva, Mulatrikona or Mitra Rasi or the Vargas, they become even more effective in bestowing benevolent blessings on the native. This is because, when a Graha occupies a Shubha or Positive Rasi (Uccha, Sva, Mulatrikona or Mitra Rasi), their level of Sattva rises. All Uccha Grahas, Shubha or Krura are endowed with high level of Sattva Guna.
BPHS 10.8. If the Krura grahas are surrounded by the Shubha Grahas, while Kendras or the Konas are occupied by Shubha Grahas, the evils disappear soon. Not only this, evils will not follow from the Bhavas concerned.
Although we know that strong Krura grahas are less inclined to harm someone, especially when they are under the influence of Shubha grahas, Saravali gives a dictum which is quite contrary to the general understanding. It says that while the Shubha grahas should be strong, the Krura Grahas should be devoid of strength for them to be incapable of harming the person.
Saravali 12.2. Shubha Grahas with strength and Krura Grahas without it removes all evils, if the Lagna falls in a Shubha Grahas’s Rasi and is aspected by Shubha Grahas, just as those, who worship Grahas will have no sins left to their liability.
In my view, this is effective, only when Shubha grahas are extraordinarily strong, else, the Krura graha can become highly vicious when they are bereft of strength. This can be understood from the effect of Avasthas of the Grahas:
Saravali 5.10. Results of Pīdita Avastha: grief, sickness, enmity, abandoned by own people, wander from one country to the other. Saravali 5.11. Bhita Avastha: troubled by enemies, lose kinsmen, defeated, poor. Saravali 5.12. Vikala Avastha: Homeless, no position, dirty-hearted, poor, wanderer, fear of enemies. Saravali 5.13. Khala avastha: Grieving due to inability to maintain his family, lose wealth, impure mind, full of miseries.
Saravali 5.26. A planet is fully inauspicious in Neecha; it is somewhat better in Shatru Rasi. Its inauspicious effects are nil in Uccha Rāśi, ¾ in Mitra Rāśi, ½ in Sva Rāśi and ¼ in Mulatrikona Rāśi.
However, there is a difference between the Shubha graha attaining strength or the Krura grahas attaining it. Strong Shubha grahas grant good qualities which strong Krura grahas grant ugly qualities to a native. Hence, although the Krura grahas should not be devoid of strength, they should be relatively weaker than the Shubha grahas, for the native to have good qualities of head and heart. It is also clear that merely due to the strength of the Krura grahas, where they are capable of bestowing auspicious results on the native, they don’t leave their inherent nature of crookedness. Only when the Krura grahas are influenced by Shubha drsti, occupation of Shubha Rasis or Shubha-kartari yoga, they undergo transformation into a benevolent graha. When the Krura grahas conjoin a Shubha graha, there is an exchange of nature, whereby the Krura Graha imbibes the Shubha qualities, while the Shubha graha imbibes the Krura qualities.
Saravali 5.45. Shubha graha in strength bestows good habits, truthfulness, uprightness, beauty, splendour, talent and expertise, respect towards Preceptors and Gods, perfumes, garlands, robes, ornaments etc.
Saravali 5. 46. Krura grahas in strength bestows miserliness, inclination towards bad acts, selfishness, jealously towards virtuous people, inclined towards promoting quarrels, wickedness. The native is torturous, dirty, ungrateful, slanderous and ugly.
The point I made before is now endorsed by Saravali, that, the evils of the Krura grahas are only removed when they are influenced by Shubha Grahas, being being aspected by them, or occupation of Rasi or Vargas (primarily Drekkana and Navamsa) of the Shubha grahas. Just by merely having strength, they become favourable go grant good material fortunes, but they can’t shed their malefic nature. Only under the influence of Shubha grahas, they can shed their malefic nature.
Saravali 12.3. If Krura Grahas occupy Rasi or Vargas of the Shubha Grahas, and are also aspected by them, evils are removed, just as a dejected lady remains away from her husband.
Mansagari 14.430. When all the Krura Grahas occupy the Rasi or Varga of Shubha Graha and simultaneously aspected by Shubha Grahas, they removes all evils, just as a dejected lady remains away from her husband.
