Timing through Graha’s Nakshatra Pada Transits: Part 4: Periodic alignment

What is the Difference between Guru occupying Kumbha Rasi vs. Kumbha Navamsa in say Tula Rasi? The vibrations of both the Kumbha Rasi and the Kumbha Navamsa are the same, the only difference being, the vibrations of Kumbha Rasi is diluted, while that of Kumbha Navamsa is focused. There are 9 signs in the Zodiac which contain Kumbha Navamsa in itself. What are they? They are all the signs excluding the Agni Rasis Mesha, Simha and Dhanu. Lets see below the missing Navamsas in different Rasis.

  1. Mesha Navamsa is absent in Jala Rasis
  2. Vrshabha Navamsa is absent in Jala Rasis
  3. Mithuna Navamsa is absent in Jala Rasis
  4. Karka Navamsa is absent in Vayu Rasis
  5. Simha Navamsa is absent in Vayu Rasis
  6. Kanya Navamsa is absent in Vayu Rasis
  7. Tula Navamsa is absent in Prthvi Rasis
  8. Vrschika Navamsa is absent in Prthvi Rasis
  9. Dhanu Navamsa is absent in Prthvi Rasi
  10. Makara Navamsa is absent in Agni Rasis
  11. Kumbha Navamsa is absent in Agni Rasis
  12. Meena Navamsa is absent in Agni Rasis

In summary-

  1. Agni Rasis don’t contain Navamsas of Makara to Meena
  2. Prthvi Rasis don’t contain Navamsas of Tula to Dhanu
  3. Vayu Rasis don’t contain Navamsas of Karka to Kanya
  4. Jala Rasis don’t contain Navamsas of Mesha to Mithuna

Coming back to the original topic of discussion i.e., the difference of Guru in Kumbha Rasi vs. Kumbha Navamsa, Guru can be in Kumbha Navamsa in any Rasi excluding the Agni Rasis. Thus while occupying any of the 9 Rasis excluding Mesha, Simha and Dhanu, Guru can occupy Kumbha Navamsa. A Rasi is collection of many vibrations of different level, which gets pure in different Navamsas. In all the Rasis containing the Kumbha Navamsa, the vibrations of Kumbha are very strong in that specific Navamsa.

This concept if similar to Vara and Hora. We know that the vibrations of Surya is strong on a Ravivara. However, it is distributed over a larger period having differing energy level. On a Ravivara, during the Hora of Shani, the vibrations of Surya is not very strong but in Surya’s own hora it is strong. On the other hand, Surya’s vibrations in its hora in any vara is more focused and stronger than the thinly spread Surya’s vibrations on Ravivara. The same concept is used in divisional chart. However, like not all the Surya’s hora in different Varas can be equated as the same, the same can’t be done for Navamsas either. Surya’s vibration in its hora will be particularly strong in its own Vara or of its friends i.e., Chandra, Mangal or Guru. Similarly, the vibrations of Kumbha Navamsa will be particularly strong in Shani’s own Rasi or that of its friends viz., Shukra and Budha. Like Surya’s Hora on Ravivara is extremely strong, similarly the vibration of Kumbha Navamsa in Kumbha Rasi is extremely strong, and thus called Vargottama.

This is an important concept. This means that when Guru occupies Kumbha Navamsa, it has the ability to give the results as if occupies Kumbha Rasi. If in the Rasi chart, Kumbha is the 3rd house (for Dhanu Lagna), Guru will behave as if it is occupying the 3rd House. This is the concept behind the Navamsa Tulya Rasi.

Now what is the use of this concept?

This concept is extremely useful in delineating the results of Natal chart through intermingling of the Rasi placement of the grahas in Rasi and Navamsa (ref. CS Patel, Predicting through Navamsa and Nadi Astrology Ch.2, quote from Dhruva Nadi). I will cover this another article.

The focus of this article is to track the gochara movement of Grahas through the Navamsa that is identical with the Rasi placement of the grahas. The cycle of graha to its natal position holds very high significance. The complete cycle of Surya causes one year, that of Guru causes completion of 1 jovian year, that of Shani causes completion of 1 Saturnine year. These completion of cycles are called Paryaya. The cycle causes alignment of the vibrations of the grahas in Transit with that of the Natal chart. This causes certain promises of the grahas in the natal chart to be fulfilled.

However, the duration of these cycles, especially that of slow moving planets are very slow. For Shani it is 30 years, for Guru it is 12 years and for the nodes it is 18 years. The mentioned years only approx.

Since, these alignment takes long-time, is there a way that alignment takes place sooner than that? Yes, indeed! The concept of the Navamsa Tulya Rasi is used here. Say in a horoscope, Guru is in Kumbha Rasi, whenever Guru transits through the Kumbha Navamsa, the alignment takes place, although the intensity is somewhat lesser. However, it is still much better than not having any alignment for a long period of time. Since Guru can come to Kumbha Navamsa only in 9 Rasis, in a complete cycle of 12 years, there are 9 alignments. Only when Guru transits through the Agni Rasis, Mesha-Simha-Dhanu, the alignment is missing. However, in other Rasis, the alignment certainly takes place. Guru transits over a navamsa sign approximately for 40 days, Shani around 100 days and Nodes about 72 days. When the grahas transit through the Navamsa that is identical with its Rasi placement, the alignment takes place and that happens to be the time of a significant event.

Barring the slow moving planets, the alignment can also be checked for fast moving planets such as Surya, Shukra and Budha. They can help in timing events, although of lesser significance.

The best thing about this method is that Lagna becomes unimportant to a large extent in the timing method. Say when transit Guru aligns with Natal Guru, there is going to be a positive event in the natives life. What positive event depends on the context of the native. The alignment of Shani or Rahu need not be negative, but can cause life-changing events as they are closely connected to past life Karma and reason for this life’s birth.

In Sri. Narendra Modi’s horoscope we see that Guru occupies Kumbha Rasi. So when Guru transits through the Kumbha Navamsa between 29th August to 14th September, there could be some significant event happening in his life.
