Timing through Graha’s Nakshatra Pada Transits: Part 6: Saturn and the Karakas / Bhava lords

Shani being the Significator for 6th, 8th and 12th house, is the cause of all kinds of suffering, calamities and misfortunes. When Shani transits the Rasi that is in trine to the Navamasa position of a Graha, it brings suffering to the functional and natural signification of the Graha in consideration.

For instance, for a Dhanu Lagna native, when Shani is transiting the Kumbha Rasi, that is trine to the 9th lord Surya located in Mithuna Navamsa, it can cause danger to the father’s life (or someone who is like the father to the native).

Sri CS Patel observes the following in his book “Predicting through Navamsa and Nadi Astrology”. The quotes are from Deva Kerala Book 3.

Saturn transiting a sign identical with the Navamsa occupied by the Sun or the 9th lord or a Trine thereof on the degree of the lord of that sign, will promote father’s death.
Saturn transiting a sign identical with the Navamsa occupied by the Moon or a Trine thereof on the degree of the lord of that sign, his father will incur trouble from Fever etc.
Saturn transiting a sign identical with the Navamsa occupied by the Mercury or the 6th lord, or a Trine thereof on the degree of the lord of that sign, will trouble his dear friends.
Saturn transiting a sign identical with the Navamsa occupied by the Venus, or a Trine thereof on the degree of the lord of that sign, will cause sickness to the spouse.
Saturn transiting a sign identical with the Navamsa occupied by the Rahu, or a Trine thereof on the degree of the lord of that sign, will destroy co-born in the 5th Dasa.
Saturn transiting a sign identical with the Navamsa occupied by the Ketu, will cause diseases to strike the native including impure excretion, physical pain etc. Health will however be recovered early.

This shows clearly when Shani transits the Trine to the Navamsa Position of a Bhava Karaka or the Lord, there is danger to life or sickness to the living signification of the Bhava concerned.

In my opinion, this can be extended in this manner-

  1. When Transits certain Navamsa, the functional or the natural signification of the Bhava falling in Trine to the Saturn’s Navamsa position, in the Rasi chart will suffer. For instance, when Shani transits the Dhanu Navamsa, it can harm the functional and natural significations of the Grahas occupying the Agni Rasis in the Rasi chart.
  2. The Navamsa Transit of Shani can affect the Grahas located in the Navamsa chart, but this is secondary. So in this example, the grahas located in Agni Navamsas can also get impacted.
  3. In some cases I have seen that the grahas placed in the 3, 7, 10 are also getting impacted due to Shani’s aspect on these grahas. But this does not work in the Amsa Tulya Rasi technique. Which means, for the aspect, one needs to look at the corresponding divisional chart. In our example, Gochara Shani in Kumbha Rasi can impact those occupying 3–7–10 from Kumbha Rasi in the Rasi chart. Also Gochara Shani in Dhanu Navamsa can impact those occupying 3–7–10 from Dhanu Navamsa in the Navamsa chart.

Illustration: Death of father

Father died: 17th February 1994

  • Shani entered Dhanu Navamsa in Kumbha Rasi on 1st of February 1994.
  • In the Navamsa, the trine to Kumbha Rasi has only Surya. Surya is the karaka for the father and also the 9th lord. This posed danger to father’s life.
  • Looking at the Dhanu Navamsa, in the Rasi chart, the Trine to Dhanu Rasi has Surya, Budha and Mangal. Among them Surya is the karaka for father and also the 9th lord. The others affected are the Uncles (Budha), Endeavours (10th lord Budha), Future (5th lord Mangal) and Exile (12th lord Mangal). Among them the most affected is the father as both in Rasi and Navamsa, Surya is afflicted by Shani.
  • Rahu entered Simha Navamsa in Vrschika Rasi on 13th Jan, where it remained till 17th March.
  • In the Vrschika Rasi, Rahu is afflicting Chandra and Mangal located in Vrschika Navamsa. It is also afflicting Ketu in the 9th house from Vrschika. The affliction to Mangal, the 5th lord is a serious blow to the person’s wellbeing and future.
  • Rahu, from the Simha Navamsa, afflicting the inmates of Simha Rasi i.e., Surya, Budha and Mangal.
  • Both Shani and Rahu afflicted Surya and the 9th lord. This indicated grave danger to the father’s life.
  • The Vimshottari Dasa Running was Ketu-Chandra. Mahadasa lord Ketu is afflicted by Rahu. The Antardasa lord Chandra is afflicted also by Rahu. Both Ketu and Chandra are adverse to the father’s life as Ketu occupies the 12th from 9th house in Simha (Amsa Tulya Rasi) and Chandra being the 12th lord is Neecha.

Conclusion

The Transit of Shani on the trines to the Navamsa occupied by a Bhava lord of a Bhava Karaka causes danger to the living significations of the Bhava. When the Dasa and the Bhukti are also not favourable, death can happen, else, there could be some diseases. Thus, this principle should be used along with the 8th/12th lord principle, to determine the period of death (provided the Dasa-Bhukti also supports that). The principles transit of Shani should also be extended to Rahu as Rahu’s behaviour is equivalent to Shani (Shanivat Rahu, Kujavat Ketu). Rahu’s cross transit (Rasi-Navamsa cross) over a Bhava Karaka or lord can increase the danger on the living significations of the Bhava under consideration.
