I just saw Joker. If I had to define the movie with only one word, the word would be intense. That’s how it made me feel. That’s what I found it deeply portrays. Intense raw emotions from start to finish.

There are so many layers to the movie and so many angles to which it can be (and probably should be) discussed, however, I think the most evident, and even relatable up to a certain extent, is the feelings of dismay and despair that Joaquin Phoenix masterfully depicts through his role.

Solitude, sadness, disappointment, anger, frustration.

If we focus on the fundamentals, we all probably have felt that way at some point during our lives because of different circumstances. It is even probably turning into a common theme and the movie its a metaphor to that.

Joker’s greatest achieving is to make us forget about the comic book villain and make us focus on the human behind the makeup; the naked face full of suffering and pain. A broken man, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Stories like this, stories that make you think and feel this way, immediately make wonder how it might be for people in those same circumstances. There are people out there that live like that, going through something similar, not knowing how to get out of it, how to deal with it, what to do. Feeling left behind and on their own.

The story of Joker is one of sorrow and sadness. Sadness that we feel for the character despite its flaws, wrong-doings and even the fear that he imparts on us; because we also know how deeply broken he is.

It is a story about compassion and the character’s clamour for it.
