Behind the Desk and Telling The News

I just finished weather and sports and now I am almost done with anchoring. I actually enjoyed being on the news desk quite a bit. At first I was afraid, I was petrified — no just kidding, but I was nervous to be on air live reading stories. It was misplaced as I had a good time doing it and my newscast partners were nice and helpful as well.
It was not too difficult since my producer was the one who found the stories. All I had to do was create a news style story from what I was given. It was nice and easy and I was usually finished by the afternoon which gave me time to eat lunch, which I was not able to do often when I was on content team, and gave me time to practice reading my scripts before we went live.
The first newscast went smoothly and helped calm my nerves for doing it again. My co-anchor, Erin, who I believe has already done Super Semester, was easy to talk to when we did our ad-lib stuff.
The teleprompter was easy to read as well and I did not have to figure out any names that were hard to pronounce like I did in sports. We also did not have to do many re-shoots as well, which was nice.
The next time did not go over as well, but was still not horrible. I had one problem with a story where I just could not stop getting tongue tied. At least I had a good co-anchor to help me as she already did her time as an anchor and just switched to content team.

We had a lot more problems besides that with the show, but we got through it and the re-shoots as well.
Once again however I have the same problem as I did with sports where I write too long of a story. I guess I just like to let everyone know what is happening within a story. I have had to do plenty of re-writing to get my stories down to a good length which I find ironic because whenever I took and English class I was always having a hard time writing enough. I have gotten better each time though and even though my stories are long my teacher says that they at least read well and are not just a bunch of jumbled up sentences.
I have to anchor one more time and then I will switch to being producer. I am going to miss anchoring. It was fun getting in sitting on the news desk reading form the teleprompter with the crew laughing and having a good time beforehand. When I am producer I will have to sit in the command booth and try and communicate with the director to make a show that I want. It will be interesting to see how I do in that area.
I am not too upset however that I have to switch off of anchoring as I will be able to do it one last time before the end of the semester which will be a good ease into graduating this fall. Hopefully I can find a job, at least I will know how it all works thanks to everything I’m learning in Super Semester.
