Yesterday is long gone, Tomorrow is a World Away
I couldn’t stress how important it is to live in the here and now. Every day is special. Each day is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present. I’m guilty of not living each day like it’s my last, but today that changes. You can’t live in the past; that ship has sailed. You can’t live in the future; it might not even come. Live for today; it’s the only thing you have for sure. If you’re not living in the present, you’re living in an illusion.
Tomorrow is a relative term. It never really comes, because there’s always another one. The past is long gone. Whether you’re trying to relive it or run away from it, it’s never coming back. Yesterday has its place, tomorrow has its place. Instead of worrying, holding grudges and dreaming, make sure every day on earth is a gift.
Yesterday is long gone
Stop holding grudges
A big reason people don’t live in the present is the grudges that they hold onto from the past. Forgive the people that may have hurt you in the past. Whoever hurt you, it might have been their fault. But it’s not their fault if you hold a grudge, though.
Don’t dwell on past accomplishments.
Just like you can’t keep holding grudges, you can’t dwell on your past accomplishments. Nobody cares about that state championship that you won in high school. Nobody cares about that piece that you finished 6 months ago or your best-selling book from 10 years ago. Nobody cares about the startup you ended up selling in your 20s. Stop talking about yesterday, stop thinking so much about yesterday. Learning from the past is important, but don’t use the past to fuel your ever-growing ego. If all you talk about is what you did yesterday, people will just realize that you haven’t done much today.
Tomorrow is a World Away
Don’t spend all your time dreaming.
Dream big. But work hard today.
“Nothing happens unless first, we dream.”
Dreaming of the future is something that is important. It gives us motivation, it gives us vision. Dreaming inspires us. Never stop dreaming. Set goals and plans for your future.
Don’t dream your life, live your dream. Dreaming is great, but you cannot spend the majority of your time dreaming. If dreaming is your primary activity, you’ll never really live your dream. Work hard today, or you won’t even accomplish your goals for tomorrow. Keep dreaming, just don’t allow your dreams to replace your present life.
Stop worrying so much
Just as you can’t let dreaming replace your life in the present, you can’t let worrying do the same. You won’t appreciate today if you’re too busy stressing about tomorrow. Whatever you’re worrying about, it’s going to happen whether you worry or not. Handle what you need to happen today, but don’t waste your energy worrying. Every little ounce of energy you have is precious. Don’t waste that precious energy worrying, use that energy to live, to work, to play, to laugh.
The importance of today
Every day is a gift. Live like it. Live in the now. Focusing on each day is the only way to realize the importance of today. The present moment is all you have. Everything else but the moment that you are in right now is uncertain. Now should be the primary focus of your life. If you’re always racing toward the next moment, what happens to the one you’re in. Don’t neglect the now. Don’t let the regret of the past and the allure of the future mask what’s really important. Once you get by the past and the future, you’ll know the importance of today. Yesterday is long gone and tomorrow is a world away, now is the only thing you have for sure.
