ThousandEyes Celebrates Women in Tech

by Marshall Korn, and Tina Serrano, Leaders, Talent Acquisition

The ThousandEyes team had an incredible opportunity to attend the Women in Tech event in San Francisco on March 21st and 22nd, where more than 1,000 women from the tech industry celebrated the contributions of women in technology. The event was a massive success, inspiring and motivating attendees to continue making strides toward gender equality in the workplace.

The ThousandEyes Recruiting team was working in the booth.

Attendees had the chance to network with like-minded individuals who share their passion for women’s impact in tech and want to learn more about companies hiring for tech roles. Our ThousandEyes recruiting team showcased ThousandEyes’ culture and job opportunities and handed out 200+ very cool t-shirts.

From keynote speeches to breakout sessions, attendees learned about the latest trends and topics in technology. Our very own Senior Software Engineer, Snehal Vanjari, spoke in a panel breakout session, highlighting the daily habits of highly productive tech professionals. Attendees left this session with actionable tips and tricks that they could immediately implement into their daily routines.

Two breakout sessions from the event stood out: “The Impact of Unconscious Bias” and “Leadership and Power: Becoming a Master Influencer.” These sessions hold immense importance in advocating for women in the technology field, aiming to achieve greater equality in hiring and promotions while reducing workplace stereotyping and discrimination. Presently, many women feel hesitant to voice their opinions at work due to fear of retaliation and may be reluctant to apply for jobs that require extensive technical skills, doubting their qualifications. As the tech industry continues to address these issues and strive for workplace gender equality, focusing on the following two areas will play a crucial role in realizing that goal.

Addressing the Impact of Unconscious Bias:

Bias awareness: Understand that unconscious biases exist and can influence decisions and behaviors in the workplace. Leaders should actively work to recognize and challenge these biases when they arise.

Education and training: Participate in workshops or training sessions that address unconscious bias to foster a deeper understanding and mitigate its effects on women.

Promote inclusion: Actively contribute to creating an inclusive work environment by encouraging diversity, challenging stereotypes, and promoting equal opportunities for women.

Empowering Leadership and Influence:

Develop leadership skills: Enhance women’s leadership abilities through continuous learning, mentorship, and providing opportunities to take on leadership roles or projects.

Build networks and connections: Cultivate relationships with colleagues, mentors, and influential individuals in various industries to provide women with support, guidance, and opportunities for advancement.

Utilize your influence: Recognize your power to effect change and advocate for gender equality in the workplace. Speak up against bias, support diversity initiatives, and actively mentor and sponsor other women in tech to foster their growth and success.

By applying these learnings, leaders in tech can work to empower women in technology, navigate bias and stereotypes, and contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable industry.

The Women in Tech event was not only a celebration of women’s contributions to the tech industry, but also a reminder that there is still work needed to promote fairness in technology. According to McKinsey and Company, women are underrepresented in tech, currently comprising 26.7% of total technology jobs. Events like Women Impact Tech help to bring attention to this disparity and inspire women to pursue careers in tech.

ThousandEyes is committed to supporting women in tech and creating a more diverse and inclusive industry. We look forward to continuing to support women in tech and working to create a more equitable sector for all.
