One of the very best places for music discovery is a live show.

Whether it’s a hole-in-the-wall dive bar or a stadium teaming with 10s of thousands of fans, nothing can match the raw energy, excitement, and fun of live music.

When Liz and I found Three Imaginary Girls back in 2002, it was based on our shared love of live shows. We served as intrepid documenters of the burgeoning Seattle indie music scene, sharing the experience of seeing all these amazing up-and-coming local bands and telling our imaginary friends about them. In writing about live shows, we helped elevate the community we documented, and we saw many of the bands we saw (Death Cab for Cutie, the Decemberists, Fleet Foxes, the Long Winters, Band of Horses, and so many more) go on to renown far beyond the Pacific Northwest. And we fell in love with countless others who remain some of our favorite bands of all time (Carissa’s Wierd, BOAT, Math & Physics Club, Visqueen, the Catch, Pretty Girls Make Graves, just to name of few of far-too-many to name).

I love live music to my core.
