“I have just one question — what is the meaning of my life?”

“The Universe is almost 14 billion years old. Mankind has been there for a minute fraction and will last the same, maybe less if we keep on track to wipe out ourselves from existence. Your existence is another fraction of mankind’s time on Earth. In terms of time, yours is a fleeting existence.

In terms of space — you and me are composed of atoms from the crucible of creation where they will return via recycling. Basically, there is nothing fundamentally unique about you — you are nothing but a borrowed collection of atoms powered by our sun.”

“So what does it mean?”

“There is no profound truth that we can grasp here. Man has been on a quest to find meaning in existence — a raison d’etre so to say. Most of us fill our lives with careers and family and thus avoid seeking for it. Regardless, trying to derive the meaning of existence is a losing cause. Maybe our brains are not yet developed to realize it or we are not ready for the truth. Or worse, there is no truth waiting to be uncovered. No one really knows.”

“So nothing I do matters?”

“Yes — in the larger scheme of the universe. No — in the minute scheme of your life.”

“Should I stop worrying then?”

“That’s the best course of action. We are lucky to exist and we should rejoice that we do. Because one day we will not.”
