Hi Friend,

It’s interesting to revisit the past and see how much things change in just a short period. With modern eyes the actions and experiences of the past can be shocking and look so incredibly strange. I recently rewatched the movie Pleasantville. It was one of the first DVDs I ever bought, and seeing the movie again now 20 years on, it feels extremely fresh given our current political climate. Reevaluting where we are is part of figuring out where to go next. All this weeks’ articles in one way or another deal with reevaluation and revisiting where we’ve been to move forward.

So, here we go.

1. Sperm Count Zero

Are we on the verge of an apocalypse? Given the decline in sperm count over the last few decades, it sure seems possible. Unsurprisingly, the culprit seems to be us. A fascinating read, it’s a massive wakeup call for what could happen if we don’t change things soon.

2. A 2018 update to a 2002 Message

While I never saw the original, watching the 2002 and 2018 versions of the ad for an IKEA lamp was surprising. I don’t want to spoil things, but watching the original one with modern eyes felt a bit…off. Glad to see the update fixes things. Shows just how much things can change in just over 15 years.

3. A Guide to Old-Timey Candies

I love a good ranking based on nothing but opinion. This guide to old-timey candies (abba zabbas, NECCO wafers, etc.) is hilarious and pretty spot on. I’m curious to try a few of these out next time I come across a dusty shelf in a drug store.
