The German manufacturer is continuing its onslaught of launches in the country and the CLS 350 is the next in line. Priced at Rs 89.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the 2014 version of the four-door coupe gets a bit more in the features list and is over a lakh rupees cheaper than the 2013 CLS. Slotting in the niche bracket between the E-Class and S-Class, the CLS 350 will face-off against the BMW 6 Series Grand Coupe and the Audi A7.

Externally, the new CLS is every bit as alluring as the 2013 model, though the new ‘Diamond Silver’ colour and new 5-spoke, 18-inch alloys grace the car with a level of sophistication, justifying the price tag almost by itself. The sleek, sporty design is accentuated by the distinctive grille and swept back headlamps in the front, the wide wrap-around LED tail lamps at the rear, and the low, muscular shoulder line.

The interiors of the new-gen CLS are plush and sport a three dimensional display instrument cluster, three different ambient lighting options, a steering with mounted controls and integrated paddle shifters and a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound music system. The CLS gets all of Mercedes’ electronic aids including ‘Active Park Assist’ and AIRMATIC suspension.

Powering the CLS 350 is a 3498cc V6 petrol engine that delivers 306bhp at 6500rpm and 370Nm of torque at 5250rpm. Mated to Mercedes’ seven-speed 7G-Tronic gearbox enables this 1700kg plus coupe to zip to 100kmph in 6.1 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
